Do you write pre-canon fic and are sick of calculating out who is what age when? Are you writing a mid-canon fic and are trying to figure out when it should be set or tired of looking up details by checking the episodes? Still confused about what year the show is meant to take place? Do you just want to read everything I could pull together about the history of the YOI characters? This might be the timeline for you!

Because of the level of detail, this timeline is quite long. It's also available on Tumblr (here) or AO3 (here), and otherwise under the cut!

Background: what year is it anyway?

The year the show takes place has been a matter of some confusion, as info is a bit contradictory. For example, in the Cup of China arc, one of the background set pieces says it's the Cup of China 2015. (One can also see in the background a banner supporting Mao Asada, who competed there in the real-world 2015, though that's probably just an easter egg from an animator who is a fan of hers.) On the other hand, the order of the GP series events lines up with that of the real-world 2013-2014 season.

However, I decided to put the show as taking place over the beginning of the 2016-2017 season, as most evidence seems to point to that year. These include:

  • The date shown on Yuuri's phone in episode 1 was changed on the disc version to move April 10 from Monday to Sunday; in 2016, April 10 fell on a Sunday.
  • His phone in episode 4 also shows May 7 as being a Saturday, and Seung-gil's phone in episode 10 shows December 10 as being a Saturday; again, these days of the week line up with these dates in 2016.
  • In episode 4, we see a sign that welcomes skaters to a 'Team Challenge Cup' in Detroit; this was a real event held for the first (and only) time in April 2016, albeit in Spokane, Washington rather than Detroit.
  • An AnAn magazine article listed Yuri and Yuuri's programs as being for the 2016/2017 season, and Yuuri and Yuri's medal positions at the GPF are listed as being in 2016-2017 as well.

Background: the timeline is not consistent and birthdays are hard

Contradictory age information is given for three characters in the show: Victor, Georgi, and Otabek. Victor's age is given as 27 in his official character bio and several times in the scenes featuring Worlds; he's also said to be 27 at the Sochi GPF. He has a birthday in-between, so these can't both be true. I put him down as turning 27 after the Sochi GPF, as that was what was repeated more times and seems to be his intended age.

Georgi's age is given as both 25 and 27 in episode six; he's listed as being 27 in his bio and in episode 7, and the same age as Victor in Go Yuri Go and Yuri on Life. So I went with 27, as again, it had more mentions. It also goes more with the theme of Georgi being in Victor's shadow.

Otabek's age is the most troublesome, because it's given as both 18 and 19 multiple times, though he has no birthday in-between. His official bio lists him as 18. Episode 9 gives his age as 18. Episode 10 gives his age as 18 directly by Victor, and either 18 or 19 indirectly. (It's given as 'five years ago' at the summer camp, he was 'in his first year in the junior division' – the minimum age for juniors is 13. But that age minimum is the skater's age when the season starts on July 1, so if he was 13 then, he should have started the 2016 season as an 18-year-old and be 19 after his birthday). Episode 11 lists his age on-screen as 19. Episode 12 does so again, and Celestino says he's 19. (He's also listed as 18 in the Go Yuri Go and Yuri on Life guidebooks.) I went with 18, because otherwise all (consistent) character ages given in the bios are accurate for the first time we meet the characters after the start of the main story in Hasetsu, and because it is listed in both of the guidebooks. If you disagree, mentally add a year to his age in the timeline.

There are also two characters for whom we have little or no age information: Lilia and Minako. Lilia's age is totally unknown. We also aren't given anything about the timeline of when she and Yakov were married, although if Yuri doesn't know who she is at all, to me, that seems to imply that it's probably been at least five years since their divorce.

Minako is at least a little older than Hiroko, who calls her Minako-sempai, but her exact age is also not known. (They could be very close in age depending on where they were born in the school year, or closer to a year apart.) She was a grade above Hiroko at school according to Yuri on Life.

For characters who have an age given but no birthday, I simply subtracted their age from 2016 to find their birth year, which technically could be slightly inaccurate if more info is revealed at some point.

I have done my best to note when dates may be ambiguous (such as the timeline of Victor and Yuri's arrivals in Hasetsu) or where there are continuity snarls. In a few places, I have also given IRL dates of various historically important figure skating happenings and competitions seen in the show for reference, although locations and dates of events in the YOI-verse do not necessarily line up with those in our own. I've also cited where everything came from, so you can easily look it up yourself or decide what you do and don't consider canonical :)

Ages for all of the characters except Morooka are listed every year after the main characters start being born. I did this because I've seen multiple people complain that it's hard to keep the ages straight when writing pre-canon fic and wishing that they had something to make it easier. (I've definitely had to re-do my age math a few times while writing fic myself). This contributes to the timeline being really long. Sorry! To make it easier to find pre-canon events that aren't birthdays, they are listed in bold until the year 2016.

Unknown – At some point this year, probably in or near the off-season, Victor adopts Makkachin. (ep1 in-universe magazine) (Note: the article says Victor is 15 and adopted Makkachin '3 years ago', which would put this event a year earlier, but this age contradicts another line said aloud. I suppose it's also possible that Yuuko could have found an older magazine and Victor could have also 'smashed records' at Junior Worlds at 15, then skated again and broken more records at Junior Worlds next year.)

March – When Yuuri is 12 (ep2), Junior Worlds is held in Sofia, Bulgaria. Victor wins gold and sets a world record for Junior men with his score. (ep1) (Note: In some sources, like Yuri on Life and the magazine article shown briefly in ep1, this is stated as happening when Victor was 15, putting this event in 2004 instead, though that contradicts Yuuri thinking about this performance while talking about how Victor was at the top of the world when Yuuri was 12.)
April 30 – Phichit turns 9

July 1 – Yuuri is old enough for his first season as an international junior. At some point, he competes with Chris in at least one junior competition, although he has never won over Chris up through the beginning of the show. (official bio) (Although Chris is already doing senior competitions this season, he is still eligible to do junior competitions for a few years at this point, and it is not uncommon to do both. He may have competed as a junior at a smaller competition, done the junior GP series instead of the senior one, or been sent to Junior Worlds instead of or in addition to senior Worlds.)
Victor has been training with Yakov since at least this season, though we don't know for sure when Yakov started coaching him; he may have become Victor's coach much earlier. (Yuri on Museum art) (See the continuity note in January below.)

January – Victor, who still has long hair, wins gold at Euros, held at the Palais des Sports de Lyon in Lyon, France. Chris and Victor meet for the first time. Chris, in his first season as a senior and already training with his current coach, calls out to him; Victor throws him a tulip that turns into a rose and suggests they meet again at Worlds. (ep7) (IRL, this event was held January 17-22.) (Note: Yuri on Life says this happens 'ten years ago', but also that it happens when Victor was 17, which would put this in 2006 instead. However, in that case, Chris would have been 14 and too young to compete at either Euros or Worlds, though he could do the senior GP series as the age rules were different at this point.)

Unknown – At some point prior to the current season, JJ apparently tries training with Leo and his coach, and with Celestino. Years unknown. (ep12) Apparently this is while he was still competing as a junior. He also helped Otabek learn a quad salchow around this time when they were rinkmates. (Yuri on Life)
Unknown – Yuuko and Takeshi get married, and she changes her family name away from Toyomura. April 30 – Phichit turns 15
Summer – Yuri transfers to Yakov and attends his summer camp. Otabek is there as well; he can't keep up with the other juniors and instead is put with the novices. He struggles with ballet but notices Yuri's determination. (ep10, Yuri on Life) (Adding to the continuity snarl around Otabek's age: while both the show, Go Yuri Go, and Yuri on Life (both books give his age as 18) say he's a first-year junior here, technically he's too young, at least at the international level – he would have to turn 13 before July 1 to be old enough, and he's still 12 until October of this year. So, either he is actually 19 during the show, or the writers simply forgot/didn't care about this point of the rules and just subtracted 5 from his age during the show.)

December 25 – Victor turns 26
December 26 – Georgi turns 26
Unknown – Yuri jumps a quad salchow instead of his planned triple sal at a junior competition. Yakov yells at him for putting his developing body in danger. Victor, who now has short hair, makes him a promise that if he wins Junior Worlds (note: some sources list this as the Junior GPF, but Victor says Worlds in the show) without any quads, he'll choreograph a program for him for his senior debut. (ep2) (The year is not stated in the episode, but as Victor's promise implies that Yuri hasn't won Junior Worlds yet, and he was a two-time winner, he is probably twelve or thirteen. Supplemental material (Go Yuri Go, Blu-ray booklet 2) refers to him being a junior, in which case he'd have to be thirteen, or outright says two years ago when he was a junior (Yuri on Life). While the wiki has this listed as occurring when Yuri is twelve, I can't find any source that says that; I suspect a fan writing the article decided he looked twelve in the flashback.)

December 10-13 – The Grand Prix Final is held in Sochi. The Katsukis organize a public viewing. Victor ends in first place for the fifth year in a row, with Chris second, JJ third, Cao Bin fourth, Michele fifth, and Yuuri sixth. (ep1) Yuri wins the Junior Grand Prix Final, for the second year in a row. (ep3, Blu-ray booklet 2) While the medalists are at the medal ceremony, Yuuri sees an article about his mental weakness and potential retirement just after midnight on the 13th, local time. (ep1) Yuri and Yuuri meet for the first time. Afterward, Victor offers to take a photo with Yuuri while they're still at the arena. (ep1) Either the next day or the day after that, the banquet occurs. Yuuri gets very drunk and ends up in a dance battle with Yuri, pole-dancing with Chris, and dancing with Victor, while Mila and Sara take pictures in the background. He asks Victor to be his coach. He doesn't remember any of this due to the amount of alcohol he drank. (ep10)
Yuuri later does poorly at All-Japan (Nationals) and after taking eleventh place (ep4) ends his season there. (ep1) Celestino does not accompany him to Nationals. (ep4) Minami places above Yuuri at Nationals (ep4) and in fact took third place (Yuri on Life, Blu-ray booklet 3), but he does not go to any senior competitions (official bio, Blu-ray booklet 3).

January – Victor wins Euros for the fifth year in a row. (ep1)
January 7 – Guang-hong turns 17

February – Phichit competes at Four Continents and wins bronze. (official bio, Yuri on Life) (IRL, this event was held February 16-21)

February 14 – Chris turns 25

March 1 – Yuri turns 15

Yuri wins Junior Worlds (ep3, Yuri on Life) for the second year in a row. (ep3, Blu-ray booklet 2) (IRL, this event was held March 16-20.)

Worlds is held in Yoyogi, Tokyo, Japan. Victor is first after the short program and wins for the fifth time in a row. Chris is second after the short and in total, and Otabek is the bronze medalist. Emil sets a personal best in the free skate and was first after the second group finished skating. (ep1) (IRL, this event was held March 30-April 3.)

April – Team Challenge Cup occurs in Detroit. (ep4) (No date stated in the show; IRL this was April 22-24.)

April 10 – the video is posted. (ep1)

11? 12? (Yuuri's line about turning off his phone implies that Victor's arrival may be the next day, but the date is not clearly stated) – Victor is seen off at the airport by Yakov (ep2). He arrives in Hasetsu (ep1), while news in Russia starts saying that he's taking the season off to coach Yuuri and choreograph his programs after seeing the video. (ep2) While Victor is sleeping after his first dip in the onsen, Yakov gives an interview to the press about him. (ep2) AlexSeanchai pointed out that due to time zones, sunset times, and airline times, we can infer that Victor did not arrive on the 10th; arriving on the 11th would be possible but requires a very tight turnaround.

Unknown – Victor takes and posts a photo of himself in front of Hasetsu Castle. The press descends on Hasetsu. (ep2)

One week afterward – Yuri arrives in Hasetsu and posts a photo of himself there. Yakov immediately calls (in the middle of an ice session, even) to yell at him. After Yuri shows up at the Ice Castle and demands Victor make good on his promise, Victor announces he'll choreograph for both of them and have them compete at an ice show in a week. Yuuri does figures at the Ice Castle that night to calm his nerves. (ep2)

The next day – Victor picks Eros for Yuuri and Agape for Yuri and begins teaching them the choreography. He tells them that he won't choreograph their (other?) programs if they aren't at a satisfactory level at the end of the week. (ep2)

Yuri and Yuuri spend the next week training with Victor and starting to learn what Agape and Eros mean to them. (ep3) At some point, Yuri takes a photo with the Katsukis + Victor + Minako. (ep10) At some point, Victor, Yuuri, and Yuri light fireworks together. (ending sequence)

The day before Onsen on Ice – Yuri and Yuuri pick their costumes, and Yuuri rings Minako's doorbell late at night to ask for an extra lesson.

One week after Yuri's arrival – Onsen on Ice occurs. Yuuri is declared the winner and Yuri decides to return to Russia. (ep3) The Nishigooris see him off at the airport and take a photo with him. (ep4)

(AlexSeanchai points out that if we can take the moon phase seen when Yuuri runs off after embarrassing himself by declaring katsudon his eros as indicative of the date, Yuuri was running on around the 2nd/3rd of May, and Onsen on Ice probably occurred around May 6th. This would put Yuri's arrival on April 29th and Victor's post on the 22nd.)

April 30 – Phichit turns 20

Unknown – Mila starts dating a hockey player. At some point before Yuri returns to Russia, they break up. (ep4)

May 7 – Yuuri oversleeps a lesson with Victor; Yuri has left by this date, but the show doesn't make it completely clear if he's just left or if it's been a few days. (ep4)

Unknown dates – Lilia comes to St. Petersburg and agrees to teach Yuri. Yuuri calls Phichit, who has returned to Bangkok and brought Celestino with him. Phichit helps put him back in touch with the person who first composed Yuri on Ice. Yuuri and Victor have their talk on the beach. (ep4)

June 6 – Seung-gil turns 20
June 13 – Yuuri hears back about redoing his FS music, and the musician gets it back to him that night Japan time. (ep4)

Unknown – GP assignments come out (usually late June-ish IRL; Yuuri just references it as being 'more than half a year' since the Sochi GPF). (ep4)

Summer – JJ does charity work. (official bio, Go Yuri Go)

Unknown – at some point, Anya breaks up with Georgi for a new boyfriend. (ep6)

July 1 – Minami begins competing as a senior this season. (official bio, Blu-ray booklet 3) So does Guang-hong. (Blue-ray booklet 4) He also begins to compete with a quad toe for the first time. (ep6)July 8 – Emil turns 18
July 15 – JJ turns 19

August 2 – Leo turns 19
August 18 – Minami turns 17

September 13 – Michele and Sara turn 22
September – the Chuugoku, Shikoku, and Kyuushuu Championships occur. (ep4) (IRL, this was September 22 through 25 in 2016.) The competition is held at the Okayama Kokusai Skate Rink. Yuuri wins, with Minami landing his first quad toe loop in competition and taking second place. (ep5)

October (early date, unknown) – Yuuri takes part in a press conference about his theme/goals for the GP series and announces his theme as 'love'. (ep5) (IRL, this was on October 2 in 2016.)

October 21-23 – Skate America, the first GP event in the show, occurs. Leo is in first place, followed by Otabek in second, Guang-hong in third, and Phichit in fourth. (ep6) (Note: These GP dates are not really stated in the show, only the order and the fact that GP Russia ends slightly before Yuuri's birthday on November 29 (ep9). However, IRL, the GP Final is held on the second weekend of December, with a two-week break between that and the last GP event, so I have gone with that timing. The dates also only include the competition days + the day of the exhibition.)

October 28-30 – Skate Canada occurs. JJ is first, Yuri second, and Emil third. (ep6)

October 31 – Otabek turns 18

November 4-6 – Cup of China occurs. After the SP, Yuuri is in first place, followed by Georgi, Leo, Phichit, Chris, and Guang-hong. (ep6) After the FS, Phichit wins first place, followed by Yuuri, Chris, and Georgi. Leo is eighth place or lower. (ep7) (Note: both Go Yuri Go and Yuri on Life say that Leo took sixth place here.) Guang-hong's final placement is not shown in the show, but supplementary material says he finished in fifth. (Yuri on Life) This is the first GP victory by a south-east Asian skater. (ep11) Phichit takes selfies on the podium and with all of the named male characters and their coaches. (ep10)

November 11-13 – NHK Trophy occurs. Otabek wins, his first GP competition victory. (ep11) He is followed by Seung-gil and Michele. (ep8)

November 18-20 –Trophée de France occurs. Chris wins, followed by Sir Notappearinginthisshow McGenericface and Georgi. (ep8)

November 25-27 – Rostelecom occurs. The men skate their SP ahead of the women; after the SP, JJ is in first, followed by Yuuri, Yuri, Seung-gil, Michele, and Emil. Back in Hasetsu, Makkachin eats steamed buns and has to be rushed to the vet. Yakov agrees to watch over Yuuri for Victor. (ep8) Victor returns to Japan. (ep9)

26th: Yuuri doesn't speak with Yakov at practice before the free skate. Nikolai brings Yuri his newly invented katsudon pirozhki. The skating order for group two in the free skate is Emil, Michele, Seung-gil, Yuri, Yuuri, and JJ. Mila and Sara watch from the stands, along with Georgi. Emil lands his first quad loop in competition. JJ wins, followed by Yuri, Michele, Yuuri, Emil, and Seung-gil in sixth. Yuri shares his katsudon pirozhki with Yuuri. (ep9) (Note: Sara says that Mickey doesn't have to come support her in her free skate 'tomorrow'; however, Rostelecom is always two days, with all the disciplines having their short/free programs on the same days.)

Unknown – Yuri makes katsudon pirozhki for Lilia and Yakov at some time between GP Russia and the GPF. (ep10)

November 29 – Yuuri turns 24

December – (Probably November 30-December 3) – Shortly before the GPF, Yuri goes to Golden Spin for more competition experience. He wins, with Someguy McNameless in second and Guang-hong taking bronze. (ep11) (IRL, in 2016, Golden Spin almost completely overlapped with the GPF, but in some years, it has been held about a week prior.)

Unknown – JJ proposes marriage to his girlfriend. Yuri on Life states that this was shortly before the GPF, and this is also implied by Yuuri seeing pictures of them showing off the rings on social media after arriving in Barcelona. (ep10)

December 8-11 – The GP Final is held in Barcelona. This is the first time qualifying to the GPF for Phichit and Otabek. (ep11, ep12) Mila and Sara have also both qualified, and Michele and Emil show up for Sara. (ep10)

Unknown, possibly December 6 – Yuri arrives in Barcelona. Otabek goes out for dinner alone. Phichit parts from Celestino to take pictures around the city. Chris and Victor talk and take pictures at the hotel pool, then go bother Yuuri. (ep10)

December 7 or 8 – After attending an official practice, Victor and Yuuri go sight-seeing, visit a Christmas market, and exchange rings in a church. Meanwhile, Otabek and Yuri makes friends. They meet up and have dinner with Mari, Minako, and the other competitors except for JJ. Yuuri learns about the previous year's banquet. (ep10)

December 8 or 9 – Victor goes to the beach early in the morning. Yuri also shows up. (ep10)

December 9 – The men's SP occurs late at night. Georgi goes out with an unknown woman. (ep10) After the short program, the placements are Yuri in first with a new world record for the SP score, followed by Otabek, Chris, Yuuri, Phichit, and JJ. Minako and Mari go to a bar with Celestino afterward. Yuuri does his 'let's end this' to Victor. (ep11)

December 10 – Men's FS occurs. (Continuity error: Morooka says that Yuuri hasn't practiced publicly since 'the day after the short program' and only returned to the public practice that morning. However, if the date on Seung-gil's phone in ep10 is correct, there has not been a day between the SP and the FS. So, either the SP and 'let's end this' actually took place on the 8th, or Morooka's comment is wrong. Go Yuri Go also states that the 'let's end this' conversation took place the night before the free skate, and there's no obvious given reason for Yuuri to skip a public practice without the fight having taken place.) JJ lands his first quad loop in competition. The final results are Yuri in first place, followed by Yuuri with a new world record FS score, JJ, Otabek, Chris, and Phichit. Victor tells Yakov that he has decided to come back in time for Nationals. (ep12)

That night, Yuri goes looking for Otabek. Mickey, Sara, Emil, and Mila find him and give him Leo's phone number. Chris is sleeping, apparently alone. Guang-hong helps him out. After finding Otabek, he changes his program last-minute. (WTTM manga)

December 11 – The GPF gala happens. Yuuri and Victor do their pair skate. (ep12) Phichit is not in the gala, while JJ goes just before Victor and Yuuri. Yuri does WTTM. (WTTM manga)

December 25 – Victor turns 28
December 26 – Georgi turns 28

additional data points: the same frame that tells us the video went viral on April 10 tells us it's 20:05 when Yuuri learns this. coincidentally, per TimeAndDate, sunset in Saint-Petersburg on 2016 April 10 was about 20:05, and Saint-Petersburg is six hours behind Japan. so the fact it's dark out when Victor leaves means it's mathematically impossible for it to still be April 10 when Victor arrives.

April 12 seems a likelier arrival date than April 11: the shortest flights I'm finding from Saint-Petersburg to anywhere in Japan are all at least ten and a half hours just counting total flight time, not layovers or getting to or from the airport (and while I'm not looking for direct routes specifically, I'm also not finding any). and it's much easier to find three-plane routes than two-plane routes, and all the three-plane routes have long enough layovers they're more than twenty-four hours from takeoff in Saint-Petersburg to landing in Japan. meanwhile the news tells us it's 4:50 right before Hiroko tells Yuuri to shovel snow, and that must mean afternoon since it's daylight, which means it's been almost fifteen hours since the most recent sunset in Saint-Petersburg. so assuming a two-plane route and observing that the train from Fukuoka to Karatsu usually takes an hour and a half (and it's probably safe enough to assume Hasetsu is located exactly where the RL place it's based on is located), it's possible it's April 11, it's just kind of a tight turnaround, since that's under three hours to cover getting from Yakov to takeoff and getting from landing to takeoff and getting from landing to train and getting from train to onsen.

but also if Victor arrived April 12, that means his departure was kept secret for over a day, instead of the news breaking late morning Saint-Petersburg time on April 11 (which sounds like the very minute someone connected the dots). so.

I may have a brand. (tl;dr: Adrien of Miraculous Ladybug has had two birthdays and the start of a new school year since Origins; Origins is the start of his last year of middle school; late S5 is the end of his last year of middle school; dear canon, pick two. And So Forth.) >_>

also it's AlexSeanchai with a capital S as well as the first capital A, if it's got any capital letters at all, please and thank you 😸

additional data point: the first article we see Yuuri reading before Celestino says not to read the news, at the top is 12月13日 後6時32分, which, I can read approximately no Japanese but that looked date-format enough that I poked Google Translate and sure enough that article is timestamped December 13 at 6:32 PM

which means either the December 10–13 on the wall includes officially scheduled competitions and practices only, with the banquet and (one hopes) the exhibition gala on the 14th, or the banquet was later that same night (what exhibition gala? or that was still the 14th even if the banquet was the 13th), or (imo likeliest, but this is still a data point so I may as well mention it as soon as I notice it) the people animating these frames should have put 12月12日

(kudos to the people animating these frames, though, this is also the first I noticed that Yuuri's phone browser has a loading-progress bar)

additional data point: almost the first thing Celestino says in ep 4 is that he hasn't seen Yuuri since the Grand Prix Final, which might not mean Yuuri broke off the coach-skater relationship immediately upon realizing he wasn't getting enough prize money from the GPF to keep paying Celestino before they got back to Detroit, but definitely means Celestino didn't come with Yuuri to All-Japan, and almost certainly means that relationship officially ended somewhere in the two weeks or so in between the two competitions

Thanks for more of the eagle-eyed additions!

The article is actually timestamped for the morning (Japan generally uses 24-hour time, and there's no 後 indicating afternoon that I can see?). 6am Japan time would be around midnight Sochi time, so that looks more or less correct to me.

if we can assume somebody looked up the moon phases—which is generally a big 'if', even when we know the creator in question looked up the days of the week for that calendar year, but if—well, in ep 3 when Yuuri's out running off the embarrassment of declaring katsudon his eros, that's a waning crescent moon, maybe 1/4 full? so May 2 or 3, 2016. that bit has to be at like two or three in the morning, but Yuuri going out to exercise at any hour is not exactly out of character. and that would pin down Onsen on Ice more closely, too; my bet is Friday, May 6.

I would be kind of surprised if the moon phases were meant to indicate anything in a show that struggles to keep a character's age the same within an episode multiple times lol, but I'll put it in! Might as well, maybe whoever drew that background was that kind of fun nerd.

moon phase in the background definitely doesn't mean anything in ep 10, whoever did that one missed the bit where drawing a straight line between the points of the crescent moon is supposed to match the straight line when the moon's at first or third quarter, and it's the wrong part of December 2016 to be a crescent moon anyway

and I'm not sure the bridge scene with Sara and Michele actually ever happened outside his imagination? if it did there's no reason to suppose it wasn't at a full moon, but if he didn't then the moon's just there for dramatic lighting

My read on that bridge scene is that it's most likely in his imagination, yeah - perhaps his is not quite as OTT dramatic as Georgi's or Guanghong's.

the Ice Adolescence trailer says Victor is seventeen in this Olympics, which re both the year and his age, the easiest math by far is this is the 2006 Olympics

shown in Paris, not Torino, when YOI's Lambiel cameo mentioned his silver medal in the Torino Olympics

(which has me mentally bumping Lambiel's silver medal in RL 2006 Torino and fourth place in 2010 Vancouver to Lambiel's silver medal in YOI 2010 Torino, justified by how at least two of the RL 2010 medalists almost definitely don't exist in YOI, like, surely if either Plushenko or Takahashi had anything even vaguely resembling their RL careers then we'd see them in YOI if only in the negative space that shaped Victor's and Yuuri's careers, and the other choice is Lambiel got silver at YOI 2002 Torino, when in RL 2002 Salt Lake City he got fifteenth; Victor must have won gold at at least one of those two Olympics, given we saw his one gold medal has a suspicious resemblance to the RL 2006 Torino ones, but if he only won gold at one of the two, I don't think we can confidently state which is which: 2010 Torino seems more likely to me than 2006 Paris for "the 2006 Torino medal designers were Italian and the very fact the design is recognizable in YOI says it's the same design" reasons, but also 2014 is well into Victor's win all the things streak and 2010 is not, so I cannot imagine he took anything but gold in 2014—or that he'd make such a point of wearing his 2014 Olympics jacket if he'd done anything but take gold—and yet I cannot recall any mention of Victor having consecutive Olympic golds, so if he has only two then 2010 sounds like the one he's missing)

(Sorry for the late reply!)

The trailer doesn't say that he's in Paris for the Olympics, only 'facing down the Olympic season', so I imagined those clips to be of him at GP France before he made it to the Olympics later in the movie. Though it's not like they felt the need to stick with real-life locations every year, so maybe they did change the location and just forgot the Lambiel reference?

Yeah, there's no mention of the 2010 Olympics whatsoever, so it would be plausible for him to have missed out on that gold. (And honestly, trying to reconcile the fact that Oda and Lambiel exist in this universe with the absence of other RL skaters because of the original characters occasionally gives me a headache trying to decide which other skaters should or shouldn't also be there, haha. There's some obvious cases where for example, like you said, Takahashi's influence is missing, but there was one fic where I used the term rippon, and then I went wait, does Adam Rippon exist in the YOI-verse to name this after, or has Chris kinda slotted into his place? So I ended up replacing it.)
